Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, was originally settled by English and European colonists in the early 18th century and is rich with historical buildings and structures. Downingtown was originally names Milltown due to the number of mills along the Brandywine Creek. Around the same time as the American Revolution, Milltown became more commonly known as Downingtown after businessman Thomas Downing, a Quaker immigrant from England who owned a number of the mills in the area. The town officially took the name of Downingtown in 1812.
